Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the pie crust is lightly golden.
  • Whisk together the eggs, sugar, and cornstarch in a medium saucepan.
  • Whisk in the milk gradually until smooth.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
  • Remove from the heat and add the vanilla extract.
  • Pour the custard into the pie crust that has already been baked.
  • Beat egg whites and cream of tartar in a large mixing bowl until soft peaks form.
  • 1 tablespoon at a time, beat in sugar until stiff glossy peaks form.
  • Spread the meringue over the custard, spreading it to the crust's edges and sealing well.
  • Bake the meringue for 10-15 minutes, or until it is lightly golden.
  • Refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.
